“The Making of the Fox News White House” Analysis

“The Making of the Fox News White House”  article by Jane Mayer published in March 4, 2019 in The New Yorker, is an example of the role and influence of media bias and partisan journalism with the case of Fox News and Trump, to the extent it looks like political propaganda.

While many complex dilemmas and connections the news media has with the president are discussed, Mayer also takes a different approach not only aiming at Trump but at Rupert Murdoch, former Fox News President, and his relationship to the US president, going all the way back to 1976 when they first met.

The purpose behind the article is not only to expose the and demonstrate the relationship the network has to the White House but to demonstrate how it has become the president’s “Shield & Sword”.

Her research goes all the way from establishing connections between Sean Hannity ( Fox News host ), Murdoch ( Fox’s Chairman) to Trumps Press office & team ( For instance, Sarah Sanders press secretary, doesn’t hold press conference but appears in Fox shows such as “Fox & Friends” & “Hannity”).

The article provides a strict timeline of the events and sources that used to work for the network. Such as Bill Kristol, paid contributor to Fox News until 2012.

At the end of the day, Meyer exposes the relationship and connections Fox News has with the White House successfully. The article became one of the The Top Twenty-Five New Yorker Stories of 2019, and gave an insight and light to something many Americans had started to notice, the political partisanship a big news network such as Fox News has established with the Right-wing populism and the aim of Rupert Murdoch to become close to power.
